The issue of affordability continues to be at the top of Hoosiers’ minds, with many families struggling to get by as the cost of everyday necessities like gas and groceries rise.
Senate Republicans have a strong track record of cutting taxes and supported legislation in 2023 that cut the state’s income tax to 2.9% by 2027 – one of the lowest in the nation – saving Hoosiers around $2 billion. Indiana also exempted military income for members of the Armed Forces and National Guard from the income tax, and this year I supported a new law removing taxes on tips and overtime pay for 2026.
To help address the issue of fuel costs, the governor temporarily suspended the state’s gas taxes. Thanks to substantial reserves due to years of sound fiscal management by Statehouse Republicans, Indiana has the financial flexibility to provide this relief while maintaining other financial obligations and reimbursing local governments with the funding they need to maintain roads, bridges and critical infrastructure.
The governor is also temporarily allowing farmers to expand their use of dyed diesel, which can normally only be used for their farm machinery, for all farm-related activity through early November, saving farmers 87 cents per gallon at the pump.
As your state senator, I will continue working to find more ways we can help Hoosiers keep more of their hard-earned money.
