Bascom named ‘Champion of Justice’ by the Indiana Judges Association

State Rep. Garrett Bascom (R-Lawrenceburg) recently received a Champion of Justice Award from the Indiana Judges Association.

This honor, given annually to one or two members of the General Assembly, recognizes work they have done to support and improve Indiana’s judicial branch and court systems.

“Indiana’s judicial system is strengthened by the judges, attorneys and staff across our state who are committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice is served,” said Bascom, who serves on the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. “I am extremely grateful for this recognition, and I look forward to continuing our work to improve public safety, support Indiana’s courts and ensure our criminal justice system has the tools and resources needed to best serve Hoosiers.”

During his time as a state representative, Bascom has championed several bills to bolster public safety and improve Indiana’s criminal justice system. This year, he authored House Enrolled Act 1296 to formalize and expand Indiana’s Integrated Reentry and Correctional Support (IRACS) program, which provides a support team that works alongside incarcerated individuals to help them access mental health and addiction treatment and other resources to reduce recidivism.
