Education is always one of the most important issues at the top of Hoosier families’ minds. Parents know their kids better than anyone else, and when it comes to schools, they should have the ultimate say in where their child is educated. School choice recognizes there is no one-size-fits-all approach that works perfectly for every child. Some children thrive in their local public school, while others benefit from a different environment at home or in a private school. That’s why Indiana has worked for years to make our Choice Scholarship Program more accessible to Hoosier families. I’m proud to say this school year is the first one where every family in Indiana, regardless of income, can apply to use funds to pay for private school if they so choose. These improvements have helped secure Indiana’s position as 5th in the nation for educational freedom. Education is a massive priority for our state, with nearly half of the state budget going to our schools. In the most recent state budget, the General Assembly increased K-12 tuition support by $960 million. This money is used to support Hoosier students wherever they learn – whether it’s a traditional public school, a public charter school or a private school. As we approach the start of the 2027 legislative session, I will continue to support parents’ rights and pursue policies that ensure all families can thrive. Learn more at Indiana Choice Scholarship |
